Budgy and Rugby

Budgy 🤝 Rugby

Rugby - ahhh, the game they play in heaven I think.

With the British & Irish Lions here on our shores we thought we’d reflect on a sport that we love here at Budgy & that has been the most impactful on our growth around the world and this month we’ll share some behind the scenes of why we love the sport & how it’s helped Budgy Smuggler’s growth around the world.

215 Wallabies Tests between them. Chief Smuggler, Linny (Centre), with Luke Burgess, Drew Mitchell, Dean Mumm & Berrick Barnes. Coogee Oval, 2010. Linny’s career was cut short due to injury & lack of ability.

The others in this group did okay though including

- Super Rugby Championships

- World Cup Finals Appearances

- Top 14 Championships

- English Premierships.

Not Bad.

Yeah, we played a bit :)

A clip of staff pictures below will show us that there's been a lot of love for the game... from our GM BJ Hartmann who captained Australian 7's to Jimmy Exelby's extraordinary park football performances in the UK, the boys in the Winter in France & not to be outdone by the girls like Jess West and Millie Durdevic, it's a game that the majority of the office have played over the years.

Staff Rugby Highlights from Around the Grounds & Around the World.

Why do we love rugby?

If we had to put it down to one reason, it's the simply joy of beating the sh*t out of people on the field and then having a beer with them afterwards.

This is a great uniting part of the game. There are few sports where there’s so many friendships built across borders & between fans. This is perhaps best personified with the current British & Irish Lions tour and the team made up up of Aussies, Kiwis, South Africans & also some players from Ireland, England, Scotland & Wales. 7 x Nations Coming together to tackle the resurgent might of the Wallabies.

The bars across Australia have been filled with good banter and while both fans want their teams to win, the atmosphere has been good natured as we near the 1st Test on July 19th.

May the best team win (and ideally the Wallabies).

Either way, may we all enjoy a beer!

Linny
